ABSTRACT: This paper refers to the use of MIDAS Soilworks Software in analyzing comparative results between two solutions for embankment after abutment on soft ground: combining lightweight materials Geofoam with geotextile and using lightweight Geofoam materials in terraced form. The embankment of after abutment using lightweight materials Geofoam can reduce stress, strain on background soft soil, nowadays this solution is widely used in the field of geotechnical engineering in the developed countries all over the world. The core of embankment has a Load Distribution Slab (LDS) block that is about 15 cm thickness, big hardness and on lightweight material Geofoam. It helps reduce stress that evenly distributed over the surface of the material and limit the destruction in a dangerous position of the block of material. Within the scope of the study, the authors used Midas Soilworks software with finite element method (FEM) to analyze two models: using lightweight material Geofoam with geotextile and material usage models Geofoam. As the results of the analysis of models using this software, the authors studied the parameters related to evaluation and orientation of using this material in Vietnam.
