TÓM TẮT
The majority of seafood industry wastewaters are potential resources for green energy production (biofuel production) from microalgae. In this study, cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris in a seafood sewage medium under sunlight and fluorescent illumination, without adjusting mineral nutrients and its application in wastewater treatment, were investigated in lab-scale batch experiments (in Erlenmeyer flasks) by an aeration mode for 14 days. The efficiency of seafood wastewater treatment process by Chlorella vulgaris was evaluated by the removal rate of total nitrogen (Total-N), total phosphorous (Total-P), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD) in the sewage. Moreover, the efficiency of nutrient removal has also represented the metabolism between Chlorella vulgaris and the medium. The results showed that the changes of illumination condition did not influence the algal growth as well as COD and BOD values while total-N and total – P were different at sunlight mode and fluorescent mode. The amount of Total-N in the effluent decreased by 95% and 79% under sunlight mode and the second lighting mode respectively. The total – P removal attained to 82% and 72% under the two lighting conditions respectively. Furthermore, the removal efficiency of COD and BOD reached 88% and 81% respectively, after a 14-day cultivation of microalgae in this wastewater. In addition, whole algae inoculum in seafood sewage was auto flocculation at the final days of culture by natural increasing of pH 10.8, algal settling efficiency was approximate to 99% for the sunlight mode and 92% for the other illumination. This naturally flocculation of algae had a good impact against the high cost of wastewater treatment process as most algae were automatically decanted.
