ABSTRACT
Low-modulus sealants like silicones, rubber asphalts, coal tar have been usedon a large scale of pavement joints. Besides their fundamental advantages, sealants still have existed several problems concerning with failures such as extrusion of sealant onto the pavement, slip-down failure or appearance of cracks within sealants due to fatigue made by repeated traffic loading and the contractive or expansive problem of concrete slaps, then affecting the operating qualities of concrete pavement joints. One of the most important components of pavement sealants is the shape factor which is defined as a ratio of the thickness of sealant to the concrete pavement joint width. The given research results about the shape factor aredifferent according to different researchers who usually concentrate on summary of the silicone sealant performance in the construction fields and just give the empirical recommendations. Based on evaluation of performance-related properties such as vertical resistant stiffnessand deformation of sealants, the object of the study would be to propose a solution to determine the reasonable shape factor forconcrete pavement sealants.
