dữ liệu cho việc phân tích so sánh.
điều kiện if biểu hiện lịch sự trong hai chuyên mục của tờ báo the Observer.
sử dụng nhiều biểu thức điều kiện if biểu hiện chiến lược lịch sự dương
tính hơn. |
ABSTRACT |
In communication, language expressions are used not
only to convey information but also to show the speaker’s attitude towards the
content of the proposition presented or to hearers. This paper focuses on
investigating patterns of if conditionals expressing politeness strategies in
the English Observer newspaper with the method of corpus-based analysis. The
two research corpora of Business and Review articles in the Observer newspaper issued
in the UK in 2007 are designed to provide the data for a comparative analysis. If
conditionals in English are popularly used to express politeness strategies in
language communication. The results of this research shows that there is no
difference between the Business and the Review articles in terms of syntactic
and semantic aspects of if conditionals. However, there are significant
differences in frequencies of if conditionals used to express negative and
positive politeness strategies in the two research corpora. If conditionals in
Business articles are more frequently used to express negative politeness
strategies while more if conditionals are used to express positive politeness
strategies in the Review articles. |
