TÓM TẮT
Understanding of student’s travel patterns and attitude toward public transport service is important to various policy makers, especially for public transport operators. This study is to examine the mode of travel to school of university students in a developing country. With the data collected from over 500 students in five universities in Danang, Vietnam. A conditional logit regression model was estimated to explore individual and alternative specific variables affecting their mode choice for trips to school. Key findings are that characteristic of students such as age, gender and income have strong impacts on the mode choice decisions. The travel time between home and school is found to have a strongly negative effect on the choice if walking as a means of travelling to school. On the policy implications of this study, it is observed that students who are using motorcycles to schools are willing to switch to public transport service if an efficient and reliable public transport is available.
