TÓM TẮT
Since CLMV countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) joined ASEAN in the mid-1990s, along with the Greater Mekong Sub-region program started in 1992, there have been more concerns and cooperative efforts worldwide to help narrow the gaps between them and the other ASEAN-6 countries. South Korea always has a stable place among the top nations which have economic exchanges with the region. From its establishment of official bilateral relations with Myanmar in 1975, Vietnam in 1992, Laos in 1995, and Cambodia in 1997, South Korea has boosted its economic cooperation with these countries and they are always South Korea’s priority in investment, especially after South Korea – ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (KAFTA) in 2007. This paper aims at studying the economic growth of these four countries in ASEAN after the year 2000 which leads to the rising interests from foreign nations and regions, including South Korea, as well as analysing economic activities between South Korea and each of the four countries. The studies found that trade between South Korea and these countries has increased significantly, in terms of both import and export. The situation therefore set a number of opportunities and chalenges for Vietnam to take advantages of South Korea’s economic cooperation.
