This paper introduces a novel model for self-correcting 4×4 multiple input multiple output (MIMO) visible light communications (VLC) based on the triangulation method and the knowledge receivers’ of previous positions. The proposed model can deal with the partially incomplete channel state information (CSI) matrix (i.e., H-matrix) of MIMO VLC system due to the user’s mobility or shadowing in an indoor environment. In our previous work, if one of CSIs sending from a transmitter is blocked, the incomplete CSI matrix (H-matrix) of MIMO VLC system can be estimated using triangulation method based on CSIs of three remaining transmitters. However, if there are missing two CSIs, the above-proposed model does not work, thus inducing a bad performance of MIMO VLC systems. In this paper, we propose a novel adaptive model that uses the triangulation method based on two available CSIs together with the knowledge of previous position(s) recorded at each receiver to estimate the current position of the receiver. By doing so, our proposed model is able to recover the full-rank H-matrix and provide a seamless MIMO VLC service to users regardless of missing of pilot signals from multiple transmitters, thus improving MIMO VLC links compared to other proposed models.
