 Potentials and Challenges of the Hydrogen Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell Vehicles

Nowadays, many serious environmental problems such as air pollution, climate change caused by emission from Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (ICEVs) in combination with the exhaustion of crude oil and natural gas resources are forcing humans to seek new means of transport. The hydrogen polymer electrolyte fuel cell (H2-PEFC) is considered as a viable and promising power supply with high-energy conversion efficiency, environmental friendliness and sustainability for future means of transport. In order to reach this goal, the hydrogen polymer electrolyte fuel cell technology must overcome both technical and economic challenges. In this article, we focus on analyzing two main obstacles which slow down the commercialization of the hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (HFCVs), namely the initial costs and the durability of the fuel cell stack. At the same time, corrective measures to overcome the above-mentioned obstacles are also synthesized
