ABSTRACT

The paper studies cluster framework for regional economic development from practices and experience around the world. This approach requires regions to undertake economic analysis to identify competitive clusters that are driving the regional economy and delivering services with competitive advantages in responding to global markets. For this purpose, the study is to employ cluster analysis to identify potential clusters for the central region. The study result reveals that tourism cluster with salient feature of heritage tourism and eco-tourism plays as a key industry cluster for economic development of central Vietnam. Tourism cluster profile is developed to determine linkages among component suppliers, relationships with supporting industries and economic foundations. Further, the study has developed a conceptual production network for cooperation and competition on common knowledge base and innovative milieu.
