ABSTRACT
Role-play has long been considered to be an effective tool for enhanced teaching and learning. Role-play simulation is an integral part of many training programs, and has been widely used in language classrooms to increase student interests, encourage their active involvement while boosting their social experience through interaction with the real world. This paper is drawn from personal experiences of teaching Interpreting for English majoring students at College of Foreign Languages, University of Danang. It revisits the relevance of using role-play for students at a higher level of language competence. It signifies the importance of tailoring role-play and simulation to meet the requirements of training students for interpretive skills needed to fulfill their assignments upon graduation. A number of role-play simulations are introduced and factors leading to the success of this approach, be they the design of the role-play, the role of the teacher as facilitator and the engagement of the participants, are then discussed and re-conceptualized.
