ABSTRACT
Dryopteris crassirhizoma (D. crassirhizoma) is used as a traditional herbal remedy for various diseases, especially, to treat tapeworm infestation, cold, and cancer in Korea, Japan, and China. D. crassirhizomawassafe after single oral administration to both male and female Sprague-Dawley rats up to 2000mg/kg. Further assays for genetic toxicity demonstrated that D. crassirhizomawas devoid of its genotoxic effect under the experimental conditions. However, the anti-allergic rhinitis effects of D. crassirhizomaethanol extract and some of its mechanisms are less known. Allergic rhinitiswas initiated in BALB/c mice by sensitized with ovalbumin (OVA) emulsified in aluminum on days 1, 8 and 15, thennasal installation challengedwith OVAfrom days 22 to 26.
