ABSTRACT
This study examines the link from organizational commitment of employees to their organizational citizenship behavior in the context of the banking sector in Vietnam. The theoretical background underlying the relationship is derived from established literature of organizational behavior theories. Under factor analysis approach, we develop our scales of constructs and test hypotheses of interest using data from a survey of employees of bank offices based in Danang, a city where most of major banks have branches. The analysis finds that all the dimensions of organizational commitment (affective, continuance, and normative) significantly affect the exhibition of organizational citizenship behaviors (courtesy, civic virtue, individual initiative, and self-development). Specifically, the affective and normative commitments positively correlate with all the aspects of organizational citizenship behavior while continuance commitment does negatively. The findings reflect properly the situation of employment in the banking sector in Vietnam in the current wave of restructuring. This implies some hints for banking institutions in deploying organizational commitment in human resource management for the purpose of developing stronger citizenship behaviors of employees.
