ABSTRACT
Due to the change of global climate, the slope‘s instability has become more severe in infrastructure and environmental projects. With the very cost-effective, community-based and environment-friendly bio-engineering tool; Vetiver system (VS) is used successfully for slope stability problems (riverbanks, dams, and highways) which can stop surface erosion and potentially reduce shallow slides. However, there are still some failures of vetiver applications which occur in large, shallow, or deep-seated slopes in heavy meteorological conditions due to lack of understanding geological parameters of slopes in designing the vetiver-planted-protection system. This paper will review cases of vetiver-planted slope failures due to misconceptions then mention problems of recent slope failures before discussing appropriate designs and techniques in vetiver-planted slopes.
