TÓM TẮT
A frequency-aid technique using ternary phase detectors (TPDs) has been demonstrated to be able to shorten the frequency locking time of fractional-N digital Bang-Bang (BB) phase-locked loops (PLLs). However, in its worst case, this technique still faces a long transient due to overlapping operation between banks of the digitally controlled oscillator (DCO). In this paper, we propose a novel technique by tracking change of the DCO tuning word to prevent such overlapping operation happening. In the worst case, the proposed non-overlapping technique helps to reduce the transient time by a factor of 3.2.
