TÓM TẮT
This paper presents the result of studying geological characteristics of soft soils in Quangnam – Danang coastal plain. In researched area, strata mainly include clay mud, sandy clay mud in multiple of origin (ambQ23; mbQ22; ambQ22 and abmQ21). These multiple layers distribute irregular, almost not expose to the surface and their thickness change in different sites. The majority in these soils are fine particle which the main compositions are clay minerals, for example: Illite, kaolinite, montmorilonite and chlorite; and the coarse portion is generally quartz. These soft soils have not consolidated with low pre-consolidated pressure (Pc = 52,55 kPa ÷61,5 kPa in sandy clay mud and Pc = 45,50 kPa ÷ 58,8 kPa in clay mud), high compressive ratio (a0,5-1 ≥ 10 kPa-1), small deformation modulus (E0,5-1≤5000 kPa) and weak shear strength. They are inconvenient objects affecting planning, designing work for different engineering.
