ABSTRACT
The Co films with thickness between 0.9 and 15.5 mono-layers (ML)on Si(111) substrate have been studied using in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Ultrathin film have been fabricated by continuously depositing Co at room temperature without annealing until 15.5ML to investigate the growing behavior of Co films.Co initially grew in epitaxial nanosize clusters, and then slowly changed to hemisphere clusters with 8 nm in diameter. Annealing temperature effected strongly on structure of overlayers in the temperature range of 700 – 1400 K.
