ABSTRACT
Cr-doped TiO2 nanotube (Cr/TiO2NT) with high photocatalytic activity were prepared from inexpensive commercial TiO2 precursor and Cr(NO3)3 by the combination of hydrothermal treatment with vacuum impregnation process. The morphology, crystalline phase, composition of photocatalyst Cr/TiO2NT were characterized by BET surface area, Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The band gap of photocatalysts was studied by UV-vis diffuse - reflectance. Photocatalytic activity of TiO2 catalysts was realized under two lights. TiO2NT unmodified exhibited much higher activity under 250W lights. Whereas Cr/TiO2NT samples showed the very high photocatalytic activity using 60W visible light. The Cr doping induces the shift of the absorption edge to the visible light range and the narrowing of the band gap. The values Eg of TiO2NT and Cr/TiO2NT are 3.23eV and 2.89eV respectively. The photocatalytic experiment reveals that the photocatalytic performance of TiO2NT can be improved by the doping of chromium ions for the self-cleaning application. The anti-corrosion of coating was assessed by measurement of Tafel polarization curves in 3% NaCl solution. The Ecorr corrosion potential values showed the high corrosion resistance of this coating.
