TÓM TẮT
Soil-cement columns (SCCs) are commonly used in order to reinforce soft ground to support the road and railway embankment or to withstand horizontal pressure for deep excavations. This paper presents another application of SCCs as load-bearing foundations for high-rise building projects. The SCCs with a diameter of 800mm, a length of 10m, a cement content of 350kg/m
3
, and a designed unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of 3.6MPa were applied. For this project, 05 single columns and 01 group of 02 columns have been built, and conducted the core drilling and axial static load test. The test results show that the SCC could achieve a load of 1,650kN for a single pile and 3,300kN for a group of 02 columns. A total number of 1,123 columns has been designed and substantially constructed for the project. When compared to conventional reinforced concrete pile methods, the project using SCC could save 30 construction days and 20% of the total cost. At the same time, the SCC could be considered as a green and environmentally friendly foundation solution as it doesn't use concrete or steel material and doesn't produce waste soil.
Key words.
Soil-cement columns (SCCs), unconfined compressive strength (UCS), load bearing capacity, static load test, single column, group of columns.
