 Comparison of the efficiency of two nitrogen treatment methods in the wastewater treatment plant

This article studies the efficiency of wastewater treatment in two different methods of biological treatment based on two wastewater treatment plants (Benchmark and Verulam). The Benchmark wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) has 2 first anoxic tanks for organic treatment and denitrification, three next aerobic tanks for organic and nitrification treatment, nitrates from the last aerobic tank are circulated to the first anoxic tank to continue the denitrification. Verulam WWTP after treating organic from anoxic tank 1, the next two aerobic tanks for nitrification, the fourth anoxic tank will denitrification and finally the aerobic one to thoroughly solve the organic matter. So both WWTPs have 2 anoxic tanks and 3 aerobic tanks but the order of tanks is different. The question is, in order to WWTP satisfy the output standards, which WWTP is more efficient and costs less aeration system? Our research results indicate that the Benchmark WWTP is about 15% more effective compared to Verulam one. In addition, the Benchmark WWTP is easy to control the effluent by the internal recycling
