ABSTRACT
Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) provides road safety, commercial, and convenience services that allow the communication and interaction between vehicles and other adjacent devices, e.g., vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. However, enabling such networks to cope with many challenges due to the mobility of vehicles. Mobility management guarantees that a mobile node (MN) can continuously retrieve the network services while it travels around by re-attaching itself via another point of attachment. Distributed Mobility Management (DMM) is a networked-based protocol for the IP layer, i.e., the layer 3 mobility management communications protocol. DMM can be used for aiming the vehicular architecture to solve mobility issues, e.g., non-optimal route and scalability that happen in the mobile Internet. Since it may have many candidate destination networks to which a Mobile Node (MN) can select for handover, it needs to consider not only the signal strength but also the corresponding networking situation for the proper selection of the next network. To improve network performance, the new method is adopted to forward packets to these candidate destination networks during the handover processing period. In this paper, a MEC-assisted network selection Handover control sheme for distributed mobility nanagement (DMM) in the vehicular environment was proposed. The proposed method can (i) help to select the better target mobile network for MNs do handover to avoid the network unbalance, (ii) adopted fast handover to DMM method using MEC-based to enhance the tunnel management. Through performance analysis, it shows that the proposed MAH-DMM can have better handover performance than the traditional DMM method in terms of handover latency, packet loss rate and throughput.
