TÓM TẮT
Since the 1990s, rural Vietnam has espoused the challenge of engaging in participatory community development through Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), facilitated by development assistance from other countries. In this context, maps, which serve as tools to convey geographical information, play an important role in the PRA process. However, Vietnam has grappled with its unique set of problems, such as the confidentiality of spatial information and the limited spatial literacy among local residents. Based on the findings of “The Research Project on the Application of Participatory WebGIS to Spatial Visualization of Community Problems in Rural Vietnam ” (supported by the Toyota Foundation, spanning from November 2012 to October 2014), this paper delves into the use of maps for Community −Based Participatory Research (CBPR). This approach necessitates the active and proactive involvement of researchers in community development efforts.
